Why I Created A Hair Care Line

Being a mom and entrepreneur is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. It’s rewarding but not without its challenges. I started Earthtones Naturals because after the birth of my first daughter, I looked at her hair and wondered, “Who did this hair come from?”  Weird question, I know but because I’m adopted, I don’t know my biological parents. So, I looked at my daughter, the only person in the world that I knew at the time who shared my DNA and I wanted her to grow up loving her hair. I knew I needed to be an example by embracing my natural texture.

It’s probably easy for hair entrepreneurs to say their products are the best or to push their products on others. But, I arrived in the natural hair space in my own way. At the time of my eldest daughter’s birth, my hair was texturized. It was long but damaged due to over-processing. After her birth, I’d begun to experience postpartum hair loss. The combination of all these factors led to my big chop. I looked for products to address the needs of my hair and at the time, there weren’t a lot on the market. I used some of the most common products out there promoted by bloggers and vloggers with dismal results. I finally found a product that worked while my hair was short; however as it began to grow longer, I didn’t get the same results. At that point, I decided to research hair science, cosmetic chemistry, and hair ingredients to make my own line.

Creating Earthtones Naturals helped me to realize three things about my daughters and other women of color:

  1. I want us to truly embrace our hair.
  2. I want us to understand its unique characteristics and appreciate what it “can” and “cannot do.”
  3. I want us to love our hair.

It’s disappointing when you try products that promise one thing, but don’t deliver. Earthtones Naturals makes hair care extremely simple because I knew the only way to give my daughters a chance to love their hair was to provide ingredients and products needed for their hair to look and feel its very best.

My top products based on reviews and sales from the customers are: For the Curl Define™ Curl Enhancing Gelly, For the Curl Quench™ Hair Butter, and The Curl Cleanse™ Moisturizing & Conditioning Shampoo. These products address defining, moisturizing, softening, and cleansing the hair to leave us with the best results.

I’m grateful for the inspiration my eldest daughter gave me to start Earthtones Naturals and I hope my dedication works wonders for your hair as well.
